Oil change & engine flush?
« on: 21 July 2010, 23:25 »
Last service was in Oct 2009 at 35k, its on the long life service & has only had 2 services at vw since new... not sure why its on long life as where I got the car from, was a built up hilly town!!!! (realising the guy was a dick now!)

The GTi is on 41k now, the other day a friend pulls the oil dip stick out & say/shows me  there is hardly any oil, what was there looked gunky and dry! so i topped up with the long life III oil from vw.

He recommended to get a 'engine flush' & put in the normal oil as I was driving in urban London.

Are engine flushes okay on the GTi, which one should i use? should i keep the long life oil or go onto the normal urban driving oil (which i don't know the name of!, any idea)

let me know..  :lipsrsealed:

You need to be using the same oil that VW are throwing in there. GTIs should never have been allowed to go on the longlife service imo. They all need to be on time and distance really.

Not really sure what to do about your oil. I just use Castrol Edge in mine and keep a nice top up in the garage should it need some. Without trying to teach you to suck eggs you really need to be checking you oil at a minimum off once every 2 weeks really, letting it run low is soo bad for the engine.

I got it changed last night, I have no idea what the previous owner was using, the garage guy showed me the oil and it was really nasty, he was surprised at how bad it was and kept saying if the main dealer serviced the car, it would never look this bad! had to flush out the nastiness twice it was that bad! put in long life oil III and said to drive it for a couple of month & see if it feels better or the tappets quiet down a little and then do another oil/filter change! drives a little better but the noise tappets are still there.... taking it on a long drive this weekend on the motorway, hopefully the oil can get to where it needs to....
