Gt tdi 130
« on: 21 July 2010, 10:29 »
Went to look at a Golf the other day but when i started it up the mpg read 29!
Now would this be due to every time its been started its been sat on idle or very short test runs?
Or is there likely to be something wrong? No smoke and quite a bit of poke lol.

Did it have a 1 or 2 in the corner above it?

1 = short trip memory which resets 2 hours after you take the key out of the ignition
2 - long term memory which resets after 99 hours and 59 minutes

It was on 29 mpg on idle when i started it up. Didnt have enough fuel to take it for a long blast, will do that when i get the funds sorted to buy one. Anyone else seen 29mpg on idle?
How much is a new maf and is there any way i can check its the maf?

I would say on idle and not going anywhere it's fairly normal  :undecided: takes a few minutes to sort itself out does it not ?

Was that from the moment you turned the ignition on?

If so sounds to me like you're looking at the long term average - look in the top right of the little computer screen and if you see a 2 then that's your long term average MPG

Use the rocker switch on the end of the wiper stalk to cycle through the options  :nerd:

Cheers for the info but bought the car anyway.
Mpg was 63 on the way home but after a few days ive realised my av mpg is 38 around my area as i sit in traffic so much

With the money i save on fuel im doing little mods, currently painting a sharran badge black (only the vw bit)
