Advice Needed on Golf Gti mk2

Can anyone point me in the right direction,Have a clonking sound from front of car every time i pull away but seems okay once moving,Also  when slowing down and crawling along slowly in gear ive noticed a slight wobble.There is no clonking when i go lock to lock on the cv joint and have changed the rear right engine mount.

Top mount problem maybe.

Check bottom ball joints, mine does this and they are ruined. Roll on pay day cos its doing my head in.

Humm could be a few things. Check all the wishbone bushes, the ball joints as said above and the front engine mount.

All the bushes and  lower balljoints look okay doesnt appear to be any play on front wheels when off ground have new wheel bearings on both sides and today fitted new front engine mount but still clonking, not getting any clonking on speed bumps so not sure if that would eliminate the strut mounts suspecting it could be a cv gone on a driveshaft ,Does anyone know if it would make that kind of noise on pullaway and starting to hear clonking when changing gear but as i said earlier not making noise on lock to lock

Ive kind of found the problem ,Stuck car in gear engine off and rocked it back and fourth located the clonking to the drivers side driveshaft where it goes in to the gearbox end. so had to use the car earlier and had some fun and games with it. The car was clonking as usual on pullaway then suddenly it started kind of clanking all the time and i lost 1st gear so thought id try get home slowly and suddenly it all went quiet 1st gear came back although car was juddery and vibrating alot more than before,By the time i got home clanking came and went again and lost 1st gear again but noticed it wasnt clonking on pullaway like usual.I am now wondering if the outer cv joint has gone and its causing all this hassle.Any ideas ?

Sounds more like a gearbox issue to be honest

latest update could be useful information for the golf gi group, The next day slowly drove to friends usual clonkingclanking and loss of 1st gear then no noise and 1st came back and pattern folowed all the way on journeyuntil near end when i lost all movement.Towed car rest of the way and we checked and found the inner cv joint had collapsed ( gearbox end on the driveshaft ) so bought new one and fitted next day and all is going well again so thanks to all for their ideas on my problem john m
