hoping for some advice, ive just rebuilt my AHF 110 GTTI after a snapped timing belt, upon cranking the engine, it seems there is no fuel getting to the cylinders.... the fuel pump is set to the right position but nothing is coming through the injectors

is it possible that there is just a big air lock?

im thinking i can either fill the fuel filter up (as it seems empty) or just bypass it altogether to get it started......

im kind of at the end of my tether with this car, ive taken 2 weeks off work to sort this, and im back to work on monday, and really need the TDI as i commute 80 miles a day,

one of the valves MAY be slightly bent still, as the tappet pops up an makes a loud click when the engine is turned over by hand, but it should still turn over i would have thought, (im not really that mechanically minded, but have done a fair bit,)

any advice?

You should be able to see fuel in the clear section of pipe.
Filling the fuel filter up with diesel would help, I always do that when I change the fuel filter.

Why did the timing belt snap? Just curious as I usually change mine at 50K

there is no fuel in the clear pipe, or there is alot of air in it,

i bought it with 135k on the clock for £1000, and ran it with out actually thinking about a belt change, having driven petrols all my life, it just transpired that it was ready to go...........

When properly primed and running I might get a few bubbles in the clear pipe but you can see fuel so definitely filling the fuel filter would help the pump pull some fuel through. It's probably all drained back to the tank and struggling to pull it through.

Fill the filter with fresh fuel, might do the trick.

success, when we turned the engine over by hand last night, one of the tappets wasnt coming back up, (not following the cam) because of a bent valve (just slightly) and was making a pinging noise.....

so took off the belt & the cam, straigtened the valve with a screwdriver (levered it till it was centred) stuck it back together, sprayed some quick starty spray in the EGR pipe/air intake pipe

AND BOOM, it turned over, like new, gonna now carefully piece it back together

absolutley delighted

I am  at what you did with the valve, lets hope it does not break.

Yeah, it is a worry. When the belt snapped, the car wasn't going very fast, and didn't travel much, but the valve I bent straight must have taken the brunt of the force, so the tappet wouldn't return back up...

I suppose as I've gone this far I could change the valves in the future, if they break,

Time will tell I suppose, and filling the fuel filter I think helped

So cheers
