door doesnt close all the way... help?

so sometimes when i, or a buddy of mine, closes my passengers door it doesnt close all the way. when you "slam" it it does though. Also used to be hard to open but sprayed wd40 on it and opens like a dream. closing is the thing that "sometimes" gives me a problem.
 i was thinking it was something along the lines of a mis-alaigned door or something? any ideas?

ps. i put slam in quotes because of course im not SLAMMING the door shut. just giving it a little more force. i would say kinda like closing the door with a little more enthusiasm...

Sounds to me like you need to adjust the door pin that the lock locates onto,if it's not in the right place the door won't fully shut.Very easy to do.

Golfs are incredibly airtight! wind a window down, and try closing the doors again, if its much easier to shut after this, then your problem is just air pressure within the car...

i would suggest tightening the hinges, checking that no door rubber seals are being trapped, that the door cards are properly mounted, that the lock mech is clean (wd40 or grease) AND that the door lock pin has the plastic washer on it.

Doors droop over time unfortunately, my drivers door is shagged and when opening hangs like wizards sleeve. You can do the cheeky bolt trick inbetween the hinge to square it up again - IIRC if you put a large bolt in the bottom hinge and close the door slowly it'll lift the door - if you put the bolt in the top hinge in brings the door down. Have a search to be 100% sure, dont hold me to that !

First off check your door panel gaps.

If you do have to adjust the pin on the 'b' pillar then make sure you align it with the lock so when the door closes it is all in line (the lock should not lift or drop the door shut).

You might have a leak if the door is sitting to far out + looks like a pannel gap eye sore.


My bets on the door stricker pin. Also check if it still has the plastic around it. This can ware away.

that is standard issue mk2 doors for ya. mine and all my mates doors dont close properly without being a bit heavy on the slam. dodgey doors and the fumey sort of oil smell through the heater vents is normal
