replace DSG gear shift....?

Don't know if this has already been covered, had a quick look but couldn't find anything but I am wondering if it is possible to replace the standard DSG gear shift with the GTI/GDT version?

I really prefer the look of the GTI shifter over the standard version and I can get my hands on a new one from a mate but we don't know if it would be compatible with my car. Has anyone tried this?

Hi Dave, I had a DSG GT Mk6 as a loan car today and pulled it apart to have a look at the DSG shifter. 

It does appear to be the same on the underside as the GTI one so I can see no reason this wouldn't work.

I will check ETKA when I am back home tomorrow

Damn, couldn't you have taken out the BCM for me too 

That's cool though, I will tell my mate that I will take it off his hands as he's not asking much for it, if everything checks out with your ETKA check.

Do you know what your engine code is so I can check the base part of the shifter is the same?

He should buy the Ed30 DSG shifter. Really cool at approximately £200!

Engine code.... don't know what it is but if you can tell me where I can find it then I will get back to you with it.


nah, don't really like the ED30 DSG shifter - not into that golf ball effect, but hey that's just me.

IF the engine code is the engine number found on my V5 then it is CAV078099 otherwise where would I find it?

Which engine is it you have, the TSI or TDI?

It should be on the white sticker in the boot and will be something like CCBZ, CBFA, there might also be a model designator like PR-0??

Steve, I've sent you a PM. My engine is a 1.4 (160) TSI. Engine code on the sticker is CAVD. Hope that helps.
