K&N Panel Filter matey with your resonator pipe removed ...

It's Cheaper - u still get a nice induction roar - nice bhp increase and improved throttle response - you retain the VW piping for cold starts and u avoid heat contamination.

Hope that helps

Well being a 1990 car I'm assuming you'll have a digifant - (hey better to be save than sorry!)

It's the pipe in the lower part of the airbox at the front that take the air from behind the headlight. It'll be obvious when you see it - it's there to reduce noise and we don't want that !!!

Just knock it out lightly with a small hammer ... add one filter panel and away we go !

Yup your's is a Digi ...

It's worth looking in to a chip to improve the throttle responce and make use of HIgh octane fuel with more agressive fuel and timing maps.

http://www.pitstopdevelopments.com/chip.htm

It's the same with the Digi 8v's as with the G60's

The resonator is inside the air box so I doubt you've removed it - I thinkyou're just talking about the plastic flap to tidy it all up - have a second look, it's like a funnel.

i wouldn't go for an induction kit either. i've got a digifant like dave and have taken out the trumpet thing as well then used a k&n.

then the best thing to do is take the whole filter box out, underneath it you should see a sort of circle of metal that is tacked in place by three small welds, if there is a cylinder there instead you have a charcoal filter. knock this bit of metal out and plumb in some large ducting from this hole to the front bumper as a cold air feed. next chop a big hole in the bottom of your air box to match up with the ducting. so now you have a neat and tidy air box with a decent filter, with a factory looking cold air feed.

the thing about using induction kits is although they look good and sound quite nice (although my panel filter in modded air box is louder than when i had an induction kit) is that the suck in hot air from the engine. as we all know cold air is denser and your engine prefers it so by shielding the filter in the original air box you keep it away from all the nasty heat.
team grumpy....... its a way of life, not a forum post
