 :grin: ha ha i love it when posts get a bit gritty lol, no worries about your 16v dig, i don't care really i've had one, it was pretty cool, just struggling to find a cheap gti box, but i can find loads of other boxes, really cheap, such as mk2's and tdi gearboxes and 1.8 se gearboxes, but obviously with different gear ratios, i mean, i don't really want to go uber fast atm, but i don't want to balls up the driving experience lol

any comments are useful on my car, it's been kicked off the driveway and is on the road now, pfft

yeah, like i said it is a minter tbh, just need to sort the box out and re gas the air con, doesn't really seem like the best idea throwing it away,

oh and the rear passenger window just doesn't work lol

oh yes, finally done it!! i have found a 90,000 mile g/box just 50 miles away for £100 i am sooo chuffed!! mk3 back on the road soon :)

Whilst the new box is on the bench id replace the oil and the thrust bearing. Also, whilst the green end cap is off you can check the actuating finger for wear on the spline and the input shaft for play (there shouldnt be any!!) The thrust bearing and new end cap are about a tenner and a litre of decent box oil is about £14 :wink:
