Hissing from engine
« on: 17 July 2010, 08:13 »
Aafter various issues with my exhaust warning light coming on the garage changed the MAF sensor which seem to have cleared the fault.  However when you turrn the engine off a loud hiss comes from the engine bay sounding like it's leaking pressurised air.  I presume this is not normal?

Another issue is that when idling and in D, the engine sits at about 700rpm, but when you put it into N or P it increases to 1100rpm! Is this another fault?

Am honestly starting to lose the will to live with this car...

If its coming from under the engine top cover, the PCV valve may well have blown. If it has a lumpy tickover aswell, then replace that, cheap and easy to do.

Its a rubber diapragm that is a known weak spot on the engine breather circuit.

Mine done the same thing, hissing after shut down. Replaced the unit. £30 for the valve housing, done in 15 minutes
