poessional/experience part wrappers
« on: 16 July 2010, 22:07 »
im thinking of wrapping my whole car in the near future but cant see how it will stick properly as its not that sticky. Is there something else you use to make it more sticky or will it be fine on its own. Thanks

Dude, im a signwriter and have wrapped many cars vans etc.

We use a self adhesive vinyl or laminated digital print on the same stuff. Its quite a job to wrap a whole car if you've not done it before.

you gonna do it yourself?

Reason they peeled was maybe because the surface wasn't totally grease/oil free.

Metholated spirits will do the job or a commercial de-greaser but test it first if using the second option.

A heat gun is a good idea too as you can heat it into any grooves etc. If water gets into a bit thats not stuck properly it will not stay on!

righty dont fancy using thoose sort of chemicals on my paint work though. say if i washed, chamoised, took it for a drive to get rid of any hiding water lol. would this then be ok to wrap ? and what are people opinions on a matt white car and a dark glossy anthracite bonnet and roof ?

I reckon u would be ok with a wash and chami but dont take it for a drive as road grease and dirt would give u problems!

Meths is fine in my experience but you can get weak solvents specially for car paintwork. There is a pre-paint chemical available that is used to de-grease when spraying.

Honestly, as with everything, its the prep work which determines how good the vinyl goes on!

Im sure you'll do it no probs
