noise from steering

hi when i put the turn the car on full lock  i get a hum noise ,vw said this happens on mk 4 s
is this right. thanks jon

How loud is it?  Mine doesn't make any noise really

Could be a pulley / belt / tensioner or the rack itself could be on the way out

Check the power steering fluid level first

hi rhyso ,i see you do good work on this site ,its my first 150 diesel so new to it al,l its a hum but no knocks or rubbing noise will check thanks jon

Get the alternator pulley checked as well - Sounds daft but is also a well known problem that can be confused for power steering issues.

You will get a very slight noise from the power steering pump on full lock, but shouldnt be much. Just drive it on till something packs up completly lol
