mk3 golf convertible elec window
« on: 15 July 2010, 19:33 »
I have a 1994 golf convertible and the front windows don`t work,it has been looked at by two garages and they cann`t find the fault. In the handbook it says they have no fuses for the elec windows or the elec roof, the rear elec windows work and the elec roof is hit and miss. a auto elec has taken a look and advised the buy both the front window switches need replacing, i have done and fitted them but no luck the windows still will not play ball. i have heard about some clips that break and stop the windows working but would i still hear the motors, i just find it funny that both the motors don`t work can anyone help me pls

When you press the button then you should hear the motor. If not then there is no power getting to them. Check the wiring in the doors. Pull the rubber sleeve back to expose the wires and check for breakages as these are prone to be at fault.

All the wires look to be ok. The main thick positive wire to the motor is live, however the rest dont come live when i pess the switch. I have taken the switch out of my polo to check what comes live, most of the wires come live when the ign is turned on.In the golf only one wire comes live on the switch,i read that the elec windows and roof are protected by a thermal cut out could this be the problem and if so were is it.

after all that it was the motors that had gone, pass side was easy to find but the drivers side well i hunted high and low for. I had to get from vw in the end which cost a arm and a leg, but hey i have front windows that work and fresh air into my veh.
