LED number plate lights
« on: 15 July 2010, 17:38 »

Has anyone changed their number plate lights to LEDs?

I hear that you need a resistor added to stop the computer thinking there is a bulb blown.

Can you buy LEDs with the resistor already fitted? I don't fancy wiring this up myself.

I got a set of these off ebay - which arrived and had the wrong connector on the end.
I sent them back and got another set - which work and are AMAZINGLY bright... but still set off the warning on the dash.
I've sent them back too - and apparently I should get another set in the post in the next few days that will work without the error message.
The last 2 sets have been R-Dash (Racing Dash) and I think the set thats coming soon will be the same.

Third time lucky hopefully - although I've already tried some single bulb ones that have resistors built in which didn't work either!

Why do you guys want extra illumination for the number plate? Do you want to make it easier when the police follow you?

There is nothing wrong with the standard lamps.

I don't want extra light, I just want a nice white light for the number plate.

Personally, I think its close to touching on the realms of chav lighting. Especially those that have those blu lights under their car etc.

I don't think it is close to 'chav lighting' at all. Most new BMWs come with a nice white light over the number plate. My brother's 335d looks great with it.

Some of you seem to be going overboard with mods, have you never heard the saying less is more.

Its not even a mod that is noticeable unless you know that it doesnt have LEDS.
