Mk5 GTI recall already !
« on: 04 January 2005, 10:52 »
Some people (me included) were turned away from GTI test drives over the Christmas break because the cars were "unsafe to drive".
Turns out that the bolt that holds the gear on the oil pump has not been torqued correctly on some of the cars, and I don't need to tell you what happens when your oil pump stops working !

Cars affected are obviously being taken off the forecourts and having the sump removed, gear bolt replaced and torqued properly.

Good start VW !

Imagine how the poor person who was test driving the car that the fault was discovered on.

"is grinding, banging and clattering a feature of the fsi engine?, it's not as fast as i was expecting, in fact it hardly moves!"

A VR6 isn't a way of life, it's just a car.

lmao

Oops ! Not a great start then.  Even if I had the coin to buy one I'd still be apprehensive as I reckon it takes most (if not all) car manufacturers a couple of years to iron out initial problems on any new designs and models, having said that though I saw my first one in the flesh yesterday and I have to saw it looked pretty damn cool.
......now officially dubless.

I agree with gibby, best to wait a while to let the problems get sorted out before you buy a new car!

I'll probably wait about 14 years, I might then with a bit of saving be able to afford one.
At which point it'll seize
