VAG COM Info
« on: 12 July 2010, 09:32 »
Am going to have to get VAG COM, always wanted it and could do with it now.

Can anyone explain what i need, do i download the program for free from ross tech and buy the cable? Cables are 300$ off ross tech site then they are £10 off ebay!? Can i use a cheap cable aslong as it work with the CAN BUS system on the MK6 or does it need to be the ross tech one?

Cheap ones on Ebay won't work

Think there are some leads now available which will talk to the CANBUS system but they're around £50+  :undecided:

In all honesty if you're keeping the car long term then I'd advise getting a genuine lead.  You'll not only save yourself money on diagnostic fees but you can pimp out your services to other members, friends, family etc and recoup your money :afro:  I've done this and paid for the lead well within 18 months or so

In the past 2 months i've had to replace&recode 2 convenience modules and an airbag module that were left unresponsive after being interrogated by cheap ebay vagcom cables. Those were on a mk4 where the modules were easily replaced from local breakers yards... good luck finding MK6 stuff in the scrappy

Thanks P3asa, trying to decide which one to go for?

£262 for the 1996 to present HEX USB or the £204 for the Micro CAN USB 2004 to present.

What has everyone else got?

HEX-CAN will do all VAG cars that have the diagnostic port

Micro Can will only do the CANBUS cars

How many mates do you have with older VAG cars
