knocking noise at approx 3k rpm
« on: 03 January 2005, 13:29 »
Guys. Need some advice.
Local Salvage dealer has a G plate GTI Cab that was recently stolen and recovered.
They want ?500. No Mot got to get it Vic checked etc.
Body is rust free but has a few key marks in the helious blue paint work.
It has a power hood that is not working, not sure about this but the eliectrics need sorting on the key barrel the original barel was busted off wires cut etc so may be a dead circuit to the hood switch.
Engine bay is pretty tidy and clean which suggests it was reasonably looked after.
Car has been standing for a while and the thrust bearing for the clutch sounds auwfull.
But when i depress the clutch and give it a few revs there seems to be a knocking sound at approx 3000 rpm. if its big ends then i will probably leave the car but if any one has any ideas what it could be please pass on the info.
any one knowledgable about power hoods for the golf, mainly is it a permanet live to the electrics or do you need the key turned in the ignition?

Thanks

Usually means Big Ends!!

Fire the car up handbrake on select 1st gear and ease the clutch out to put load on the engine..
If it starts knocking??? Bad News Big Ends:cry:
