Need car tax advice
« on: 02 January 2005, 20:20 »
Have my old mk2 gti sitting in uncles barn and want to sell it. There's still 4 months mot but no tax and I'm no longer insured on the car. How can I tax it when I'm not insured? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Err, No easy way around this one, unless you know someone else who has insurance to cover it, eg, in the trade :undecided:

Could get a few days temporary insurance?

its not tax that brings the value of the vehicle down, its MOT.

as you have an MOT you should be able to sell it withough too many difficulties.

Agreed, the tax belongs to the person not the vehicle and probably wont add the value to the vehicle that you spend on tax.

Anyway I have tried to buy tax for a mates car using my insurance certificate which covered me third party, the P Off refused flatly to accept it.  We even complained to the DVLA and they said though technically I was insured to drive the vehicle that I needed to be named on the policy which covers the vehicle.

Though I supposed they may make acceptions for trade.
