pretty rare, came on high spec drivers or gl's maybe, i think. a mate had them on his mums old 5 door and the chrome was starting to go all nasty, i believe they are obsolete from vag now. you'll probably have a hard time getting hold of these as i know of a fair few people over the last few years who've tried to find a set. the main problem is that due to the age of the cars that had them the chrome is old and flaking. its like if you look at the chrome strips on original bumpers that have been out in the weather for 15 or so years, they go all faded and yellow.
mu mates car that had it looked awesome as it had all the original chrome bumpers, grill, rubbers door handle inserts etc.... looked better being a 5 door as it seemed to have alot more chrome with the extra door handles etc. good luck finding a set!

probably, anythings possible!!! all you really need is a rubber seal with a cut out for the insert and some chrome stuff. people have made them out of other manufacturers parts before, but i'd imagine it'd be hard to make them with out them looking too home made!
