Battery light stays on until revved.
« on: 07 July 2010, 15:22 »
Ok my GTD has done this since I've had it. The alternator was quite new when I bought the car 1 and half years ago, but it is not a genuine reman.
Basically I start the car, the battery light stays on until I blip the throttle then it goes off. The rev counter does not work until I blip the throttle. It is a bit annoying as I have to blip it everytime I start it.

Is there any reason it is doing this and any way to stop it? The belt is on tight and does not slip.

Could it be voltage regulator? If so I have a spare bosch one I could fit from a 90ah bosch GTD alternator I have. The current alternator is 65Ah. Is this 90ah regulator compatible with the 65ah and are they easy to swap.

Its nice to be able to start sorting the annoying little things on the car, but which actually will make a nice difference to the everday running.

Thanks
Will

does sound liek the volt-reg, whip it off and make sure the connection round one of the bolt hole and the bit where the metal spring contact connect are clean. check the brushes as well make sure they have some meat left on em and are roughly same length
