I got my 05 GTI 15 months ago with 68,000 on the clock, got them to do belt, pump etc & it's never missed a beat other than the horrible rattle from the cam chain & tensioner which i got changed under the warranty that came with the car. After that it runs like a dream.

what about what this guy said:

I work at audi stockport and we do an offer on the cambelts, cambelt and tensioner only for £329 and a cambelt, tensioner and water pump for £380, also we only replace at 75k miles or 5 years as reccomended by audi and i think the engine codes are the same on the diesels and the petrols, so dont know where they have got 4 years from.

heres a question, mine is coming up to 4 years old, but only 20k, do I really need to do the cambelt?

:-)

Yep, there's a reason VW state not only mileage but also time. After 4 years VW think the rubber could have perished enough to cause a failure, thus warrants it being replaced regardless of how many miles its done.

Yep 4 years is the norm for a cam belt.

Well I went and got a nice 5dr Gti with 64k on the clock - it drives just as nicely as my 3dr Gti did when I sold it with 14k miles on the clock, so I'm a happy bunny. :)

Gonna have to get the cambelt done though.
