Where to go?
« on: 06 July 2010, 01:04 »
Right I am needing new pads at the front and perhaps new discs...

I have started reading about the EBC "various" stuff pads and apparently they improve braking. Can simply changing pads really make a difference over the OEM ones?

Surely I would need to change discs etc before noticing gains.

Secondly apart from awesomegti.co.uk where is a good place to look for VW GTI parts. I don't trust ebay for this matter as there are too many Asian imports which look dubious.

Thanks...

Hi Penguin

Have you decided to keep the GTI now then?

Yes I have. It is a long story and quite an interesting one but in short I am keeping it.

In fact someone just phoned this morning to buy the car, giving me the price I wanted, but ended up declining. I don't know what it is but I just don't want to let go of my GTI now that it comes to it.

Part of it is that I went to look at the Mini's and realised that -whilst they are fantastic cars- the GTI does so many things you don't notice (like sunglasses holder, comfy seats, refrigerated glove compartment etc etc). So that kind of put me off the Mini. I then faced a tough decision where I could have looked at another car (like a Meganesport 250) but then I thought, hang on... I'm giving up the GTI for a GTI wannabe. That made my decision a bit simpler.

It was a bit of a shame for the guy this morning. He was quite excited.

I am truly terrible.  :embarassed:

Penguin:
I am really so happy that you'll keep the GTi.
I was just about to go into mourning by you immanent departure.
Now I'll shed tears of joy!

Yes am1w I am staying... need to sort out the GTI though with some new brakes and some better tyres. After that we shall see.

At least I have a snazzy new signature courtesy of Shadypioneer (much appreciated)

Welcome home Penguin, back where you belong   Don't ever be tempted to leave us again, nothing measures up to the full GTI package.

Loving your sig pic, did you powdercoat your wheels yourself?  They're lookin good.

Thank you Gizzy,

Got a wheel chip company to do them months ago. £40 a wheel which wasn't bad at all. Decided to keep them black as I think they look bigger in black (they are only 17 inch) Took off the bonnet vinyl though. Actually did some good as I have not a single stone chip on my bonnet after 25k miles.
