hi brake light didnt work, i messed about with switch now they wont go off, ive got new switch but problem is still there not going off, had to remove switch could it be afaulty switch regards bill

Possibly not fitted it correctly.  You have to do it precisely as per the proper method or you damage the switch inside.  I got it done (second time lucky :embarassed: )  as per the instructions here:

Hi All,

Thought I would pass on some good news. I have sorted my brake light switch, hopefully.

Its the A type two plug swtich.

Its been playing up for many months and I finally had to replace it on tuesday(25 Jan 2011). Unfortunately it went down on me again last night(Thurs 27 Jan 2011). So after having a good luck at the switch(which made me dizzy being upside down in the footwell for so long) I noticed that when I depressed the brake pedal I had to gently push up on the front of the plunger to be able to disengage my auto gearbox from park. So I got to thinking about the angle of the metal bracket which houses the switch and decided to alter the angle by pushing it forward(Towards the engine). I took it out for a good run today and have had no problems. Heres hoping!!
