I'll do pretty much anything to the engine/exhaust.

I want it to run really quietly.

I know it'll never sound good... I just want it to be less noticeable.

A good service will probably quite it down a bit...Then you could change the exhaust to something like Jetex, which would sound a bit less like a TDi, lol

Would the exhaust make it quieter though?

I hate hearing gary boys in their corsas with dustbin back boxes.

Not sure about quite, but it won't be a tractor anymore ;)

+1, sorry you would do anything for a quiet engine,  and yet you have a Diesel?  Something missing here   Just lag the engine in dynamat

under tray and bonnet sound dead stuff is your best bet.....try ebay.de as they had performance diesels unlike us brits and they were much better spec'd than the uk's soot makers

I want it to sound like the a new passat TDi.... Instead of chugging it just sounds kinda nice.

Might put the Mk4 engine intended to be dumped into my Mk2 project into the estate...

If I do that - I could save the turbo from the mk3 and the intercooler and have a twin turbo TDi returning ridiculous MPG.

Hmm...
