dust ! !
« on: 01 July 2010, 08:30 »
Oks i work next to a train yard so theres a lot of freight train movement thought out the day and this kicks up a lot of dust which coats my car every week with a brown light powdery dust. When i get water on the car when the dust is on it, its almost like its water proof.

Whats best way to remove this ?
[my paint works a shambles needs a fresh coat of paint but thats going to have to wait so atm it doesn't need to be anything fancy, just want to get the dust off it]

Thanks

prevention is better than cure here... get jetseal 109 and a decent hard wax like collinite on there to protect it

you also need a product called iron cut in your life... http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Aquartz_Iron_Cut_1.html as the iron fallout which is coating your car is slowly eating away at your paint!

if i were you i would:

wash
ironcut
clay
wash
polish
jetseal 109
collinite wax

^ what they said.

In terms of ongoing maintenance you should try including some snowfoam as part of your wash routine. This will lift a vast majority of the dust off the paintwork before you go at it with your wash mitt, so will reduce the chances of swirls caused by the dust particles being moved around on the surface of your paint (if that makes sense).

After you have foamed the car, give it a good blast with a pressure washer (if you have one) to remove as much crap as possible before you start with the mitt.

that looks like a mixture of the dust kicked up from the stones they use when laying the tracks, and obviously there will be an amount of metal from the track/wheels on the train etc etc.

regular washing if possible will minimise the damage until you get the bits you need.
