Front tyre eater !
« on: 30 June 2010, 15:52 »
How often do most of you change your front tyres ? i seem to be going through a set every 10 months not cheapo's either just cost me another £260 for 2 tyres today.

I am hoping now i have changed the track roads and the lower arms that this set will last a little longer

Set of Falkens lasted less than 8K, my Goodyear's lasted about 10K and at the moment my Vredstein's seem to be ok

That's quite a bit of rubber your chewing mate, I guess that it should bee ok now with the work you've had done.

When your tyres had reached the end of there life were they evenly worn?
Also what is your common driving style? Do you hammer it round bends most days?

If your tyres are unevenly worn then your tracking may be out in which case a 4 wheel laser tracking session would do your car some good.

Just a few thoughts of possible reasons for tyre eating.

is that directed at me or Kerrse??

I'll answer anyway haha

Falkens were sh!t - Steve will back me up on that lol

All my tyres have evenly worn bar the Goodyears but that was down to the camber being slightly out on one side which has now been corrected

Driving style - normally sedate except for last Sunday........

With regards to Kerrse - what sort of pressures are you running??

my car gets through a set of front tyres every 4 months :lipsrsealed: they last around 10-14k depending on make and type of compound. rears last around 20k

as for the falkens :lipsrsealed: ok in the dry, terrible in the wet and extremely bad when 2/3rds worn :lipsrsealed: :lipsrsealed:

80% of my driving is motorway driving sat at 70mph
I often wonder why people never expect sarcastic comments from me - they're the only reason I speak...

Do you guys swap fronts for backs to alternate tread wear?

My old mechanic used to do this on services apparently so the tyres get even wear front and back and last a tad longer.

i run all 4 wheels on 32-33 psi i am still on the same back tyres i have had since i bought the wheels new this will be my third set of front tyres inc. the ones they came with. The first set came on the wheels they were avons the last 2 sets i bought were Bridgestones.

They wore down the inside on the last 3 sets of fronts even though i did get my tracking done on a regular basis hence the reason we have changed the track arms and the lower arms.

In that case hopefully what you have changed will be the problem of the uneven wear on your tyres.
So would it have been a case of your wheels were just sitting at the wrong angle before? Or could your camber or toe be out previously? Not sure if it's camber or toe that would cause this as I can never remember which is which
