Evening all, well as some of you may know ive been planning on holding off for an ed30 lately. due to the finance still on my type r its quite hard to get the remaining money together to pay off whats left of a difference on what its worth to trade in plus get a deposit together.

I work for VW so its easier for me to get a car through my work as i get it at cost price plus they can sort me out on the finance/deposit side of things.

problem is, weve only had 2 ed30's within the last 6 months for sale but a 3 door gti has just come in today and only has 1 previous owner, and 11,000 miles.

Its an 08 plate and grey. Only thing getting to me is the extras you gain over buying an ed30.

Through my work, id probably get it for around the 15k mark but will I regret not holding off for however long it may take until an ed30 comes in?  I'd definitley remap it to approx the 240bhp mark but is there much else that can be done to the gti to up the power from there?

I really dont know what to do lol.

Anyone got any ideas for me?

im in the same position..... iv got the standard gti and planning on tinkering. iv got the forge cold air feed intake and forge uprated dv on at the moment and looking to get decat blueflame turbo back exhaust, APR fuel pump and forge twintercooler then iv no idea what sort of ECU remap i go for once its all fitted as i know ill only get my true gains once its mapped to whats on the car. im pretty good with replaceing all hardwear things just no idea when it comes to the technical facts and figures side ha

I would love an edition 30 but due to cost etc got a standard mk5 GTI. Had it just over a year now & still think it's great. I was lucky to find a set of edition 30 alloys (monza's don't do much for me) & i've fitted a non res Milltek along with the genuine leather/alloy golf ball gear knob.

Iv got a remap with a carbon cold air intake and pipecross filter, bigger 3'' downpipe and Millk zorst and its got more than enough power for a FWD.

I wanted a ED30 too, but could not afford and then found a GTI for £8500.00  ... Had it mapped by "JR Tuning" and Now love it!!... Go for normal GTI you wont be disappointed.

Sounds good to me, last thing I want is 300bhp not holding the road then having to look into lsd's.

Is is possible to fit the ko4 turbo to a standard gti? Would it be a direct fit?

The salesman is making up some figures for me just now over the gti we got traded in

Mine is running about 265 BHP, and sticks to the road very well still and I feel is enough power at the moment and i sitll get 35 MPG on the way to work driving it normal.

You can replace turbo and put bigger injectors from the ED30, but I would leave that along and change the exhaust to Miltek, maybe change air filter and remap by JR Tuning.

sounds good to me. What sort of work is involved in getting a gti up to 265bhp? Remap, exhaust and induction?

Id sit on your money, ive had 2 standard GTi's and now the Edition 30.

Totally different in character and looks alot nicer imo. For me twice of having a normal MK5 GTi and now " No way in the world" parting with my Edition 30 says something.

If you remap a standard GTi and remap, it will perform simular to a standard ed30 ,but with the smaller turbo, will spool up quicker but will fade higher up the rpm.

Stage 1 Ed30 will get you to 270 approx, add another 10bhp for stage 2. and i can tell you now, the car handles the power with little fuss, and by eck, it flys, to the point of not much unless your in a supercar will leave you behind.

Awesome car and with dsg again gives you shifting advantage again punching cars with more horsepower.

Right I've decided for definite now, I'll hold off until September. I'm going away to Alton towers for a few days in October and definitely want a golf for
going down in so I could put money by until then, then the civic is paid off some
more and I'll have a better deposit to put down. I think I'd be raging with myself if I didn't hold off for an ed30
