[Yawn]

The FSI technology is optimised to run on at 98+ RON fuel, but it will run on 95... just not as sweetly.

VW claim catalytic converters can be damaged by running 95 for extended periods, though. So what is likely to be more expensive in the long run? Super unleaded, or a new catalytic converter?

Plus, 98+ RON burns more efficiently, so the extra cost per litre is offset with the increase in MPG.  :nerd:

Any benefit of 98+ RON is only felt after ten tanks and as a point of note, I can't tell a difference between Tesco 99 and V-Power, but I can feel a difference to standard 95 RON fuels.

Most filler caps have 98 with a (95)   in brackets.

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

If you look inside the filler cap the sticker in there recomends 98 ron unleaded. Use Shell V-Power in mine since the day i got it.

Mine says 95 on the filler cap.

If you take the part no on the sticker, and are anal enough to check with your dealer, you'll find thats the wrong sticker on your car.  Seems to be a lot of them about.  (It was another member here who first discovered this ...)

Another vote for Tesco premium 99 and Shell V power. Both are 99 RON now.

From a cold start, my car settles into an even idle sooner when using Tesco 99 than when I have a tank full of  V power. Strange.

Optimax was 98 Ron but they changed V-Power to 99 Ron earlier on this year or the end of last year.

I know its been posted before, but more info:-
