Ed30 gear knob = RNS510
Standard GTi gear knob = RCD310

You get the idea?
So what your saying is the gear knobs for people who cannot read a map

It looks a work of art and does not have the cheap look of painted red plastic of the standard one. Just the feel of it is superb and substantial. No contest. :smug:
I can't agree that the standard one looks cheap, it looks superb, and at night with the lights on, you get the red and silver highlighted.
Also as mentioned by DDRfan, you lose the colour coordination of the interior.
the Ed 30 one does look very cool for the nostalgia factor, but i don't think the standard knob looks that cheap either

You know it, I know it, they know it, VW know it .... one is a lump of plastic, albeit a beautiful one, but the Ed30 one has a machined and hand made appearance and feel to it. A Breitling vs a Seconda. Nes pas? Acceptance of superiority is sometimes very difficult. However, such reluctance is understandable.

PS: The standard GTi gear knob is probably the second best one in the VW catalogue.

It's an unconvincing argument...and one I'm not buying.
If you want to change, change to one that at least tries to be faithful to the original Mk1 gear knob, but with a modern twist...not that half arsed effort, over-styled, pimp-tastic effort.
Pick one that actually feels like it was designed to shift gears, rather than look good in a car parked outside some poncy winebar.

Get a 25th Anniversary one:

20th Anniversary one the same, but marked for 5 speed.

You don't like my knob?
Well I certainly don't like yours. :smug:
Now how can you be sure sure my knob will look good in a car outside a poncy winebar? Hmm, you've been to one recently have you not?

PS: I prefer the standard VW GTi knob to your choice. But that's my taste. I also dislike the long thin shaft on your preference.

I like Am1w better than the 20th/25th anny one that red GTI sign is just nasty.
I also like how the ed30 one looks like a golf ball on some type of holder.
Even one of the launch cars at the paris motorshow had the ed30 gearknob so i guess VW even then was not sure which to use.

Darren came to London. Very kind of him.
I was most impressed with the quality of his workmanship. And what a wonderful person. Met his wife and baby girl. Really super people. Very warm, friendly and kind. Nice to know such selfless people exist.

Apologies to all if I got a bit carried away in my excitement and for any rudeness. I had such a problem getting the knob fitted, so when it was done, I was over the moon. You can understand that even those minor criticisms were not what I was expecting. So I let fly! Such passion! It is quite superb to the touch and to the eye.

But is it WORTH £180? No. :lipsrsealed:
Or,
But is it WORTH £180? Yes, because I paid up!   +
