i did think it was a bit cheap but saying that for that price if it only works for a year or so it would still be a bargain

fitting aftermarket central locking on a mk4 is an absolute pain in the arse but it can be done
the problems lie with mounting the motor to the door pin rod  as it needs to be mounted inside the metal panel otherwise you won't be able to refit the doorcard

there is a guide on ukmk4's where they guy mounts in on the outside of the metal panel...so just behind the door card!

I also have the same as u Elliot. I have done everything possible inside mines to make it the same as a gti, only need electric windows which ive looked into and also remote locking. It does have central but not remote. I am only upgrading this inside and out as to in september wen im points free i can then get a gti or 1.8T whatever so i can make a fair bit of money on my 1.4.

aha!
i got electric windows on the list next

anyway i need some help with the central locking!
i have wired everything up and got everything as it should

i have earthed it and given it live however whenever i give it live and then try and either unlock or lock with the key fob it blows the bloody fuse on the live wire
so it will ive long enough to either unlock or lock but it will blow the fuse whilst doing it

blew the fuse first time so had to go and get some more and when i tried again it just blew the fuse straight away....really not happy

but why would it keep blowing the fuse?
i have it wired up to a 12v power source
...terminal 30 on the base of the relay rack (which is 12 i believe)
so yeah really confused as it is obviously getting too many volts yet its a 12v piece of kit!  :undecided:

would really appreciate a quick answer
cheers

ok so i ended up wiring the live into my amps power cable...it runs straight from the battery so is a consistent 12V power suply!

not sure what my problem was but everything now works and have fitted door cards with no issues regarding the motors being in the way

anyway 1.4E with remote central locking...done

next up is electric windows, i will start a new thread

anyway thanks for all your help
and the kit i used definately gets the thumbs up from me

cheers

east sussex mate....so quite a trek from scotland :undecided:
if your ever over this way your welcome to have a look tho

and the remote came with blanks (you specific which blank you want...obviously i went for the vw blanks)

so going to get it cut into my ignition key, then it will literally be identical to a high spec key
same shape, size, weight, and even the same vw badge on the back

oh and you said you were going to get electric windows, you looked at any kits yet?

cheers
