Now I know why I fell out with VW last time
« on: 24 June 2010, 17:26 »
Don't get me wrong, I still love the car and still faultless other than the door knocking noise many of you seem to have had.
But the dealers? Dear oh dear. I fell out with VW last time when the dealers couldn't fix my Mk4s. The latest  thing is that I rang round 5 dealers yesterday to get a quote for the first annual service on the current car. I eventually got qutes off four but what a rigmarole. Every service department I spoke to was a woman and I'm not being sexist here but none of them had a clue.
Most wanted my reg plate before they could give me a quote but because I have a private plate and can't remember the original 09 plate they couldn't quote. I asked them what difference it made, it's just a Mk6 Golf GTi. "What engine is that sir?" "210 TFSi I would say" "AH a 110 FSi " came the reply from one and so on and so on. It was like pulling teeth. None of them had any knowledge of the product or had the capacity to think independently from the computer in front of them.
And the fifth? Never rang me back yesterday and busy today.
I always contrast this with my wife's Saab dealer who know us by name, can tell me anything or everything I need to know, always beat or match any other quotes I have (including independents) and, most importantly, ring when they say they're going to ring. How hard can it be?
And what's really bugging me at the moment is that Leeds VW are cheapest so far and I really don't want to give them any business for having a bunch of useless t**** salesmen and generally having a crap reputation.

 Most people I encounter with a computer are like this - they lose the ability to think independently.

Have you tried JCT600 in Wakefield ?   I've found there service to be much much better than VW Leeds,  and I've never looked back since changing to them.   Book early enough and they have always given me a courtesy car for free.

They are no worse paid than other brands. Well not round here anyway.

Theres a reason they call 'people' in dealer workshops who work on your cars 'Tech's' now and not mechanics.

And that boils my p1ss!
It took me 6 years to become a properly qualified Technician...and a semi-skilled grease monkey who changes the oil is a Tech after 2 weeks training and with no formal education. Hmm...

^Ditto.

They do some formal training  if you can call it that  i did subaru's dealer tech course back in the 90s but i classed myself as a self trained mechanic not a tech  as i could fault find and diagnose problems due to experience/car hobby and my Engineering backgrounds. (it was a family main dealership chain at the time i use to help out at weekends when not studying/working as the trained chimps just kept saying computer says no  or its not in the book  )
