New Car Settings
« on: 23 June 2010, 14:18 »
Hello all.  I've been lurking around here for a few months and wanted to say hello and thanks for all the helpful info posted here.  This is a great forum.

I am finally due to collect my 5 door GTI DSG in metallic silver (with leather, RNS501, Dynaudio, luxury pack, winter pack and ACC) in a week or so (ordered in mid-Jan).  I have been wondering whether I should ask my dealer to change any of the vag.com settings for me, eg:

(a) switch off daytime running lights, if possible (although from reading here, I am not sure this is possible)

(b) disable audible alarm when locking/unlocking via the key fob

(c) disable automatic door locking when the car is driven away

Are there any settings that you would recommend that I ask him to change?

Thanks all.

Welcome, if you're in the uk you don't need vag com to do any of that mate, some it can be done via the mfd, the lights are only an issue if you've got xenons, the chirp on locking isn't standard on uk cars so that's not an issue and the lock unlock is in the mfd. Congrats on the car mate, you'll love it

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

Yes, I am in the UK.  Buying the car from VW Telford (Inchcape).  I am really, really excited about it and will have a nice drive home (to London).

If I get the Fiscon bluetooth, do I need to have Vag.com change settings (or can Fiscom do that if I take it to them to fit)?

VWpartsguy17, just getting a 404 page not found error when I click on your link.  Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for the help.

Ah, found that page now.  For some reason, Firefox wouldn't go straight there, but I can get there via a Google search.  Looks interesting.  Thanks.

If fiscon fit it then they will sort it no probs, if you fit it yourself then there are differing experiences of what works and what doesn't without vag com, do a search on here cos it's been covered at length.

Thanks Jimble.  I'll see what others have said on this.  I did start reading through the various posts a while back, but lost track.  I thought Fiscon was probably the right system, but started reading negative comments about it.  So, I am somewhat undecided.  I actually originally had the VW telephone preparation specified, but took that out of the spec when I read about compatability problems.  Sounds like they have now addressed those, but it's too late for me.

Thanks again.

(b) disable audible alarm when locking/unlocking via the key fob

Can be activated via VAG.COM
I actually quite like it as I don't always watch to see the indicators flash.
I may be wrong but if you press the lock button twice on the key fob does this not de-activate the deadlocks?

Thanks for that.  I've just been speaking to Mrs cjp64, who will drive the car every day, and she like the idea of the beeping to indicate lock/unlock.  I thought she would say the opposite.    So, I assume I will have to ask to have this activated in Vag.com?

Thanks.

The dealers don't use VAG.COM. They use their own proprietary system. So unless the bleep is an option in the UK then you might find they won't / can't activate it for you. Probably best to get someone on here to do it for you via VAG when you get the car.
