Service and remap from Toph & Ben
« on: 22 June 2010, 23:00 »
Went to see the folks at Tuneside yesterday to get my car serviced, what can I say first time i've met them and I must say their top blokes.

There service and knowledge is brilliant and you really feel like your in safe hands as they have seen there fair share of mk4's so know every bolt.

They also had a look over my car to check if al is in order and founf that the exhaust bracket had broke and my back box is hanging a little, also cv gator is leaking a touch onthe drivers side and last but not least my intercooler has a tiny tiny leak :(

I'm going back there on Sat to get my VRS bushes popped on as both have gone but I knew this before I got there anyway.

Toph also mapped the car and my gosh it is well and truly amazing, the power is amazing even if your not belting it you can feel that you only need to dab the accelerator to pick up speed in almost any gear.
Nobody could say that a MAP wouldn't make you smile as it is for sure gonna please anyone who gets it done.

I'm just umming and arring wether to keep it or not as my car is standard and i'm not sure I should have all that poke of 175 horses and 300lbs of torque on standard 15" wheels with doughnuts for tyres and sea boat suspension  I deffo could only ever use that poke on a straight road even then the car tries to twitch as the wheels spin cuz of so much torque. Is still deffo amazing though.
Just gotta make up my mind quick before sat to keep or not to keep the map.

All in all i'd deffo recommend these fellas at Tuneside as they not only know what their doing but their top blokes that really make you feel welcome and in safe hands.

Cheers again Toph and Ben

Only one tiny thing is we couldn;t get to the bottom of my MPG problem as all my hoses look fine and other than the tiny leak on the intercooler all else seems fine so still stumped as to what is causing me such sh*t MPG as I only get 400 miles to a tank :( and always well under 50 MPG even on long runs at 60 :(
Again nothing came up on scans and my MAF has also been replaced, i'm fed up with the MPG problem :( the car just doesn't wanna tell me what's wrong with it :(

Have u cleaned the inlet manifold and egr valve? These are renowned for glogging up with carbon crap, restricting the inlet and reducing MPG. It's an easy fix and well worth doing.

Toph had a quick look and there is some gunk in there so looking into getting a delete pipe to sort that out.
Right now the EGR has been turned off anyway as that was part of the way the MAP works.

Delete pipe will work but no point in doing it if you haven't cleaned the egr and manifold. I would recomend doing it, not a difficult job really and could solve your mpg issues.

it was dirty but not clogged up, i've seen loads worse than that with no mpg complaints. if there's time on saturday i might take the intercooler out for a closer look.

Just another pointer, have you checked the pump timing with Vagcom? This can also affect MPG, if the cambelt hasn't been changed recently and the pump recalibrated then the it can be slightly. Maybe worth a look if not all ready done.

Damn it's looking like it is my intercooler causing me all the MPG issues, well it might be and looks like it probably is.
I had the diagnostic session with Chris @ Tuneside and everything seemed fine apart from some hefty thick black smoke when you floor it on power runs, they wer getting less and less the more he put his foot down which was a good sign.

Anyways gotta get a intercooler which I really hope will sort my issues out, if not then on the trader it's going as i'm depressed with just about only getting 400 miles to the tank for the past year and can;t find the problem :(
Over the year it must've been costly loosing like 150 miles on every tank for a year :(

Fingers crossed Chirs and Ben gonna sort the bugger out and get it running right.
