tyre stretch help please.....newbie

hi folks im new to the site ive just sold my cupra r 225 to start a new project. im collecting a white, totally clean and original mk3 3dr gti on saturday with the intention of slammin it on some deep dish rims, and a few other ideas ( real clean and simple basically )
what i need to know tho is what size tyres should i be after to stretch onto a set of 17 x 8 rims

i dont want somethin thats gonna be uncomfortable of hell but i want it nice...any recommendations..

If you dont fancy that hit 185/45/17! forgotten the link but if you have a look on wheelwhores They have a link to a website which shows you what each tyre stretch is like for all different sizes
