Some advice about 2.slow!?
« on: 19 June 2010, 17:20 »
Just after some advice and what to look out for, my mate has just asked me to look over a 2.0 gti for her. The car is on a x reg with 108k on the clock, body work is clean and starts and sounds ok from what i can hear, under side is clean from what i could see, prob could do with new brakes, didnt get a chance to peak under hood as he was closing up

Did check service history tho, history is showing upto 90k from both vw and others , timing belt done at 70k but no sign of waterpump been done  is this a worry on 2.0

Now guy is asking for 2499 with tax till sep and mot till march 2011, clicky
What do you think and is there anything else to watch out for as im going back on monday with vagcom to see if there are any hidding problems

seems abit pricy, much better around for the price, could get a 20vT for that price

The Clio didn't as it's naturally aspirated and French

Seems an alright car,
I would check the oil!!! The 2.slow is terrible on oil, goes through as much oil as it does petrol!!!

But i agree with the other lads, bit pricey. Put it this way i paid less than that for my Colour Concept, it had a few problems and was out of auction with no tax/MOT

Even for a dealer thats about £700 over priced, I had a 2.0 the benefits are cheaper insurance & In my opinion it suffers less common engine faults than the 1.8T but fuel economy is average and performance is poor, also reselling a a 2.0 will be awkward mine was for sale for ages then I decided to convert it to a turbo.  Oil consumption is high but I found using a thicker oil stopped this.

Convert it to a turbo? meaning dropping a 1.8T lump or adding a turbo to the 2.0?

Dave dropped a 1.8T into what was a 2.0 Golf.

Ah right! Surely that wouldn't effect the price that much you would have to spend that much converting it!
