Test drive today...
« on: 19 June 2010, 13:07 »
...

Went and took a 130 derv out for a test drive in view to buy at a car lot.

It looked lovely from 30 yards away but with a little closer inspection it had a few too many deeper scratches across the wheel arches, bumpers and trim. the interior was nice and clean and everything worked well inc the aircon.

The engine sounded good and the gear box was smooth but the clutch was a little too springy..maybe they are like that on these cars?

and way i was impressed with the speed and they way that it drived.

I didnt buy the car for a couple of reasons.. first of all for a car with full service history mostly vw it had a couple of hosepipes wrapped in duck tape which didnt impress me. it had all the stamps etc up to date inc the cambelt but it was literally a tick in the box. There was no paper work for that. The only paper work was from 07/08 which showed up problems with the intercooler oil leaks and engine oil leak all of which never had any other proof of it being fixed.  Also i notice the disc brakes had a massive square lip on them.. not just a little lip so i had a look at the new mot sheet of which the advisory section was not present, when i asked the dealer about the advisory as he got the mot done he said oh it was probably a tyre or summink.... Knowing full well at least the breaks would be on that.. any way he tried rushing me into buyin it and then spurted out.

"ive been in the trade for 11 or 12 years mate you'll never find another rare motor like this 4500K u can drive it away today"

i said yeah alrite mate in the kind of whateva voice and said seeya later.

Barring the fact the geeza was a tw@ do u think i made the right decision to walk away or were i being a bit too picky on the motor???

Cheers for reading!

For £4500 you can afford to be picky on a 130.

I think you did the right thing.
