UNEVEN TYRE WEAR !
« on: 18 June 2010, 20:36 »
Is anyone experiencing uneven tyre wear on the mkIV. I have uneven tyre wear on both back tyres, I originally thought the noise was wheel bearings untill "Colinv" gracefully told me to check the tyres out first !!!

Could anyone tell me how this happens & is there anything that can be done to stop it.......before I buy new tyres many thanks everyone

Hi mate was the tyre just worn on the one edge? Or both edges? Or centre of the tread? Or was it worn in a way that when you spun the wheel you could feel the tread all bobbled? I've saw quite a few
mk5 golfs needing the rear alignment done to cure wearing of the edges

Alright Colin your here to save the day !! ha ha

The 2 rear tyres were both worn on the insides, passenger worse than the drivers. If you went right down and looked at the tyres you could see where the tread has worn in a sort of lumpy pattern like a flat spot then a small lump. flat spot, lump, flat spot lump etc etc ..... It was definately this that was making the noise as I have now put these on the front to see, now the noise has gone to the front.... Whats the procedure now for fixing this problem ????? Cheers colin

And there you would have gone a replaced a wheel bearing lol. Personally I'd recommend you change the now front tyres(worn ones) for a different brand and have a rear wheel geometry done that should sort you out before the other 2 tyres go the same way

Sorry they are not Dunlops, Have you had same experience with Dunlops ?? I have had a look back on the receipts that came with the car when I bought it around 5-6 months ago, all the replacement tyres have been done by VW themselves. At the moment there are Federal sport on the back, Sonar ultra sport are on the front  I havent heard of these tyres in my puff !!!! I have just changed these tyres round. so the Sonars have been on the back which are unevenly worn on the inside........
