Gearbox problem . .

my cars in the garage today to have a gearbox . . its a mk4 Golf 1.8T 5speed ( agu )

I was sold a gearbox yesturday by the local scrappy and they insisted it came off the same car and would fit . .

Yep you guessed it, it doesnt!! . . i had the garage just ring and say the selector on the top is smaller and held in by some sort of ball joint which my old one hasnt got, and it has an electrical connection on top and mine doesnt, he said he doesnt know if you can change selectors over because it looks like you cant . .

sounds like theyve sold you the later box found on AUM's

Can the selectors not be swapped or anything or is there no way it will fit? . . thanks for replying

i'm currently reconing my box off an aum engine code, if you decided to get rid of the box that doesnt fit i might be interested depending on price and your location.

Im quite far away mate ( norfolk ) . . ill be able to take the box back as only got it wednesday, but ill keep you in mind. . . Does anyone know if they can be swapped over?

Hainford hall mate . . to be fair it does look the same and they said it came from a golf 1.8T and it does say 02J on it, but the selector is smaller and instead of bein bolted on its kinda riveted on, ive took some pics ill upload them in a minute . .

Heres the box they sold me, any ideas what year or engine its off, or has it just got a different selector on. ?

is there a 3 digit code on the gearbox or part number? Should be able to tell from that

There is, it says o2j, and there is another one, ill try clean it up and then tell ya, ive got a suspition this is a non turbo one they sold me from the pics ive seen of them.
