Which Tyres?

I have a mk3 16v and i need a good set of tyres to replace the ones i have as there sh!te!

I need 205/50 15V but they need to be hard wearing yet offer good wet and dry grip.

I would prefer Goodyear, Pirellis, Bridgestone or Michelin. I would consider other brands but i need the tyres to be in the ?50 to ?80 price range each!

I have Uniroyal rainsports on the front of mine, and they seem pretty good - they weren't cheap (about ?100 +) but they are 205 x 40 17 so I would imagine you can get them cheaper in your size. Make sure you get a few tyre dealers battling for your business, I found Hi-Q where the best for cheaper tyres, so phone them last with your "best quote so far"

Can any1 give me advice on the following tyres which i have found at mytyres.co.uk on the web which fall within my budget:

Preferably advice from people who have used these tyres before or currently such as wear rate, grip wet/dry and side wall flex

Mine GTI wears Michelin Pilot Exaltos, they are a solid tyre Great grip in all conditions and hard wearing, had the fronts on for about 8,000 miles still look good now had the rears done and the grip is unbeleivable, very highly recommended

I know there are conflicting stories about these but I do rate Toyo Proxy T1-S tyres. I am onto my second set on my Mk3 8v and think for the money they offer  superb wet handling and seem to last not too bad. My last front set lasted 15k doing a mixture of driving. Previously I had Contis on the front and in the wet they were absolutely shocking. Take a look at www.toyo.co.uk for your nearest dealer. I found the best place was Ski tyres (not sure if national company) and paid about ?60 per tyre fitted (i.e valves, balancing and the new disposal cost!).

I have got Yokohama AVS Sports on mine (91 8v GTi mk2) and to be honest i can't fault them! I haven't had them on for too long (2 months) and they don't seem to have worn half as much as i was expecting!
I did have Yokohama A520's on before but found them to be very poor in the wet whereas the AVS Sports are much better.

I bought a set of Pirellis for my MK2 Golf that worked out at ?53 quid each compared to the quotes I had of ?90 each.

On the site they list fitting places that will do it for ?10 each wheel with balance and valve etc, I got mine done for free by my local tyre fitter as I take all the work vans in to him.

when bought my golf it came with a range of budget tyres.
Then after a trip to my local ATS i had fitted a new set of Pirreli p5000 drago`s { very grippy but wore quick }
I now have a set of Uniroyal rainsport 1, Good chunky, grippy tyre, Not sure how long will last.

do not buy pirellis. The range offers excellent grip in the dry but very little in the wet, I had a set of P5000's and felt very unhappy to press the middle pedel in the wet. My friend also has the p6000 and has exactly the same problem. The wear on them is quite good, but unless you fancy driving like a lemon at the slightest sign of water stay away.
