Upgraded bulbs in headlights
« on: 16 June 2010, 22:24 »
Hi,

I was just wondering how many people have upgraded the bulbs to make the lights look more white

What bulbs were purchased and if anyone had any pictures with the new bulbs fitted

I am interested in seeing if I can go down this route to get slightly better and brighter lights as to buying the expensive xenons

There may be a problem with the DRLs and bulbs.. as I would expect whichever bulb has the DRL feature (it's been a while since I've seen my car) will have a dual filament.

Although I would like some nice shiny whites.

There is few people on here ugraded there bulbs, from memory the main headlight bulb is H7 and the sidelight bulbs are w5w, powerbulbs do them both by various manufacturers. The DRL's are another story though, H15's I think and as far as I know no-one has actually bothered to produce these yet. Hope this helps

They are H7's on the MKV too and I have upgraded my main, high and side lights. I used the Philips X-Treme Power H7 bulbs for the main and high and the Philips W5W side lights.

Awesome thing is you get the side lights free when you buy the Philips bulbs, and you can also get a forum discount

Mrk V, GTI, 3dr, DSG, heated seats, winter pack, cruise control, rear parking sensors and now thanks to GizzyWizzy and SteveP in the MK6 section a RCD 510. Awesome!

Not a bad price considering you get the side lights as well. I got the Halfrauds ones for my present car and I'm sure at the time they were around £20

Awesome, so the DRLs aren't in some crazy dual filament kind of arrangement?

Yes, only Osram make H15s and for some reason they chose old-man's-teeth white from the colour chart :undecided:

Mtecs mate! Nice and white with a blue tint. Not really a preformance bulb though, more a show bulb. I think I will change bulbs come the winter season.

Ring Xtreme White Xenon 100 (or something like that) left and Mtecs on the right:
