I have no idea how longs it's been there. When I picked up the car at the end of November last year, it had none im sure as I was pretty anal about the paint/body work (made them polish out a few scratches I found before I picked it up.) I also washed the car about 2 weeks ago and I never noticed any bubbling or anything like that, and I spent a lot of time on the wheels so im pretty sure I would have noticed it then. It is such a shock.

I found the rust because I was cleaning off some mud and bird dirt that had got on the car over the weekend. As I washed the mud away from the arches I saw a fleck of paint hanging from the arch. On closer inspection I found all that bubbling and rust, and my heart sank. It is now so noticeable im surprised I never saw it before.

Anyway I have just rung VW Beadles in Dartford, but they don’t have a body shop tech so they need to get the guy from the Sevenoaks branch to come take a look at it. I’m just waiting on a call back as to when I need to take the car to the dealer, but they said it will be about two weeks as the body shop guy is on holiday. F*cking typical.

Dubbin has this bang on point, heard of people in the past been refused as the corrosion was not a hole etc.

Do you think the car has had some paint missing for quite some time for this to happen, still shocked by the pics

On this.

I know a chap with a TT who had a rotten bootlid and Audi refused to do anything as it wasn't an actual hole. He was livid to say the least.

So there has to be hole for VW to fix it under warranty? Thats f*cking pathetic, rust is rust no matter how you look at it. Trust me they will be fixing it and I wont be paying for it! I will get the garage who supplied me the car to reimburse me if it comes to it and if not, hello legal action.

Yep, it is worse on the drivers side though.

I have just been looking back at some photos I took back in March, and from what I can see there is no sign of the bubbling. Also I noticed I have a stone chip that’s so deep it’s started to rust the metal too. Will get the body shop to take a look at this too.

I will let you all know the progress. In the mean time I have written up a complaint letter that I plan on sending to the salesman I brought the car from and maybe even VW head office.
