Hi, im a newbie, female and blonde so bare with me! Lol.  :huh:

I have a Golf GTI MK4 1.8 Turbo (98 S reg) and am having a few problems, grrrr. I've had it for 6 years now so don't want to part with it, i just want it fixed.  :sad:

It is juddering /misfiring and just beforehand i can hear a clicking in the ignition area. It seems to happen after it's warmed up although the temperature seems to be messing about a bit as well. It also keeps cutting out on me when slowing down/stopping, the revs drop out and it cuts out, though at the moment it starts again (thankfully as every time it happened yesterday was on a roundabout!).

Any ideas?????

Welcome, hope you get it sorted, post above in the mk4 section, you will get a better response, although i know what the first one will be, get the codes read and go form there, if you have a laptop go on ebay and buy a vagcom lead, they are about £15, it comes with the basic software to read and reset codes.
MK4 GTI T AGU, REVO Remap, BMC carbon box, Miltek cat back, Forge diverter valve, THS FR3 engine/Gbox mounts, Some random alloys, lowered on coilovers.
192bhp 212lbft torque.

The cutting out at junctions etc will more than likely be the throttle body needing a damn good clean. As for the misfire then maybe coilpack or plugs and leads need changing. As said try getting a fault code reader to check for codes first but throttle body clean is free and easy to do. Do a search on here for a guide on how to do it. Welcome to the site as well.

It sounds like you have a few small issues there. A quick fault code scan will reveal more details. First thing i'd do is clean the throttle body (check the mk4 maintenance section for a guide) and sort out the temperature problem. Funny things can go on if the ECU is seeing strange engine temperatures. If the needle movement is erratic then look at replacing the coolant temp sensor but if it's stable yet refusing to sit at 90 degrees it points more towards the thermostat being faulty.
The clicking around the dash area could be the fuel pump relay or an ignition switch problem. Also check the condition of the battery connections as well as the fuses that sit on top of it. Faulty maf sensors and ignition amp modules are common causes for misfires and judders with your engine.

Like what others have said beofr with posable things to check i would do that? Where about in the UK are you? If around the London/South aria i could maybe check the problem with my laptop and see what comes up and then you would have a better understanding at what to change and fix you MK4 :)
