cleaning 'rubberised' interior trim

My trim around the centre console & door handles (the type that has a film of rubbery type coating) is looking a bit of a mess, due to where it has been scratched & the coating has come off.

Has anyone any advice for me on the best way to go about getting it looking good again? I was thinking of using a scotch pad with some type of interior cleaner to remove all the coating, but before I do jus wondered what methods other people would recommend.

If it was me, I would just sand it all off, then give it a few coats of black paint and few coats of laquer

second that, mine is gloss black now, much better.

I used an old tea towel and methylated spirit to work all the rubber out...behind is a glossy-black which looks much better! It just takes a fair bit of elbow grease to get it off that way. You could try something more abrasive than a tea towel, I just didn't want to run the risk of scratching it.
