The power to weight is the thing to look at I reckon:
16v Mk3 = (150 hp/1110 Kg)*1000
= 135, which is a good number to have. To put it in perspective a 325 BMW E36 is 140.
Now a remapped ECU in the 16v should give in excess of 170, but, if we tranpose 170 into the above we get: 153!!
I'm sure that I have read that the 16v's were detuned to give the VR6 a distinct power advantage over the 16v engine.
Nice motors the GSi's, handling is a lot better than the std Vectra apparently, lovely seats too. Don't know if you looked but the Anniversary seats are a bit on the loud side.
