Dynaudio - on or off?
« on: 11 June 2010, 17:32 »
Anyone know how you can confirm the Dynaudio amps are on and working -I presume the Dynaudio system uses remote amps, like the old Bose system did?

RNS510 starts up, displays Dynaudio splash screen...and sounds fine.
But doesn't go as loud as I'd have expected for all the extra 'grunt'
I can regularly run with the volume up 80% (with the sunroof open) and I'm not sure the Dynaudio amps are actually doing the work.

If the car has Dynaudio from the factory, would you get any sound at all if the Dynaudio amps weren't turned on correctly in the coding?

Could the coding be wrong?

Or does the volume level sound about right?

Interesting.
Looking at the cost of the total Dynaudio system (amps and speakers not the RCD upgrade), it does not seem very high to me. Maybe most of the money has gone on the loudspeakers with just a booster amp to improve on the standard unit's headroom.
I maybe talking rubbish.

PS: The standard amps produce 4x20 Watts RMS (total 80 Watts RMS). A 3dB increase in dB SPL would require 4x40 watts. A 9dB increase which is equivalent subjectively to nearly twice the loudness would require 4x160 Watts RMS (total 640 Watts RMS).

Are the Dynaudio amps this powerful?

I was under the impression (and I might be totally wrong) that their power was much lower and so the increase in overall dB SPL compared to the standard set-up will not be so obvious.

Dynaudio amp sits under the passenger seat. Have you gone into the menu and played with the EQ settings - that might help.

If this is the case, then the increase in dB SPL with the Dynaudio amplifier will be approx 5 dB. Hence it will go only slightly louder.

Note: 2 x power = 3 dB increase, therefore an increase from 20 watts to 80 watts will be 6 dB increase in dB SPL. The decibel is a logarithmic scale.

I have to admit I thought the same the other day with the windows down.  Sometimes it really impresses then other days its just average.

I've never been able to turn mine up over 20 as it's too loud ( that's 2/3rds ). I'd certainly check the "loudness" setting ( settings, media then there's a low, medium and high option. ) mine is set at medium but occasionally defaults to low, even though the screen says medium...

thanks for the info there mate

More than happy with the sound produced from my Dynaudio. Although it does obviously depend on the quality of the audio source. Not had any serious distortion yet, even at max volume and a resonably poor source.

Where ?,mine does not do this and there is no mention of this in the manual :undecided:,is that for a aux input only ?
Golfgti build quality is average at best.
