Just thought i would add my thoughts on this also having done a retrofit today, i initally wanted to buy through darren on this forum, but after a couple of days and no response and i think what 8 days in total as of today, gave up , negative experience.

So that meant the minefield that can be ebay, but I think i may have purchased from the same supplier as FROGTI on ebay, same sort of price, quick replies, and very fast international shipping, arrived next day! The unit is mint, production date of march 2010, and is the star LED unit. Everything works as well MFSW, parking sensors etc without any coding. Now im usually very wary of attemtping anything like this, followed the same howto guide, and yeah so straight forward , dab radio out and rns 510 in under 20 mins, like you say 2nd time round could do it in less for sure, very positive experience all round.

Great unit too, think it really rounds off the interior of the car also  Happy Chappy

Glad your experience was as good as mine. Having played around with the RNS510 for a couple of days, I now realise it is a LOT more than just the RCD510 with satnav. I particularly enjoy:

- being able to watch DVDs, even on the move (for passengers!)
- extra bright screen with a colour scheme that matches the clothe seats exactly
- put my ENTIRE music collection on the hard drive last night - no more discs to fiddle with
- the laptop-like interface, so many more features, all it lacks now is Internet connectivity

I have just bought the TV tuner to see if I can get that to work, too. VW would probably sell more RNS510s if they changed the name (similarity to RCD510 makes you think you're just getting satnav) and brought the price down a bit.

Is it worth the £600 or so you have to shell out for a retrofit? Yes, especially as you can sell your RCD510 on for about £300. Is it worth the £2500 VW want to charge as an option? No. It's nice, but not that nice

Does the RNS510 still play CDs or not?

It does, but there's only space for 1 CD (or DVD) at a time - no changer. It doesn't really matter for MP3 tracks, as you can copy everything onto the internal HD, but you can only hold one video DVD in there at a time.

Oh right thanks, I guess it's still an awesome piece of kit over my RCD510.  Morty in Leeds is gonna fit one for me + LEDs sometime in July.

A very worthwhile upgrade, you're sure to like it. It is so much more than just the RCD510 + satnav

The RNS510 would be ideal with wifi in it at least to aid transferring your music or connecting to the net.
Surely it wouldn't have been that hard to implement.
As for the internet, again would it be that hard to include a sim card reader next to the SD Card slot and then only allow access when the car is stationary. Is that pie in the sky or are any manufacturers actually working on a system like that?

Talking of the RNS510, has anyone any experience of the front headrests with screens connected to the head unit?
