Gorgeous car. But at £30k plus extras well into BMW money. And others for that matter. And therein lies the problem.

If both were the same price everybody would buy an R.
    If one comes around at the right price in a year who knows. But im not sinking 33k into a VW :S

i still prefer the looks of the GTI over the R - putting the 2 cars next to each other, the GTI will surely look the more 'girly', but i like that in cars, with a few feminine curves here and there, and i am still amazed how the 18 inch Monzas look.

if the GTI could have the 4WD system installed in the R, that would be interesting proposition to me.

I see the R models still get the same hate from the majority of GTI guys. Dont see why really... you get what you pay for. Looks are always subjective anyway.

To me the posted pics of the white "R" are looking very racey (as the red GTI) but indeed as amw1 indirect claims the white "R" has it in spades.
For points of style (to my taste) both cars score very low...I guess colour and alloys has to be chosen carefully if you want to achieve that.

To make myself clear I would choose an "R" any day of the week.......there is actually no valid reason to my belief to choose a GTI over an "R" since they can look both the same (in a worst case scenario ) but the "R" still will be the better car and is that not the whole point....full stop....
