Golf GTI engine...
« on: 09 June 2010, 22:58 »
Right guys I'm looking to learn some more about my engine.
I don't know any engine codes beyond k03 and k04 for the turbos so please forgive my novice tongue.

I'll start with my (possibly incorrect) beliefs.

The Mk5 engine with k03 was around 200 hp and a stage 1 went to 240 hp

The mk5 engine with k04 was around 230 hp and stage 1 went to 270hp

the mk6 engine with k03 is around 205 hp and stage 1 has taken mine to 270 bhp.

What has changed between the mk5 and mk6 engines (with ko3 turbos) to allow such a difference in remap potential?

The Mk5 BWA KO3 can produce 214 BHP with V-power on it's own

The KO4 Mk5 produces 230 but remapped can produce 300 BHP.

40-50 horses is the usual gain from a remap but a few of the mk6 engines have been dyno'd at over 22o stock so the remap has taken then to the realms of 270-275.

alrighty... so i take it mark 5's were pretty much 200hp from the factory when dynoed.

I assumed that all VAG cars produced a but more than quoted and was therefore wondering why the headroom on the mk6 was so much higher than the headroom on the mk5.

The rollers you went on require re-calibrating

Rolling road days regually held here, as an example. Though no mk6's in the gallerys.

Standard mk5 GTi after remap 235-240

Edition 30 with K04 after stage 1 270bhp

Mk6 GTi after stage 1 around 250bhp

add Cold intake and full exhaust to see another 20bhp on average

Spot on...40ish genuine BHP is about right for a generic remap.
Any more, and the dyno is lying...
And if people think standard Mk6 GTIs make 230+ BHP they are more stupid than I gave them credit for!

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

220 BHP (with a 223 BHP as top) are measured standard MK VI GTI's on the JD Engineering Roller Banks...40-45 BHP as a remap is a reality so the most you can get out of it is say 270 BHP.....if you are lucky......if less lucky 260 is the average...not to be sneezed at....

You can check the VW tuner.......in short when you bring in 210 you get 260...they give you a guaranteed 50 extra

However there figures are ....let's say carefully choosen....meaning...acc in 6.4 sec is in real live sooner 6 sec in various clocking and the newtons can get up to 392 in measuring.....but actually who cares after remapping your car is the fastest on the motorway that is unless you bump into exotic cars...
