Vr6 exhaust system
« on: 09 June 2010, 10:25 »
Hi everyone

Now I've recently bought a backbox for my VR6, and I was of the knowledge that the backbox and the "suitcase" rear box were two seperate parts, I.e there is a joint between the two, but looking at mine last night, there is just a straight pipe between them, and no join, making putting this backbox on a non diy job! Just wondering if anybody else has had this, whether it's because it's an original exhaust or something?

If im being incredibly stupid, I'm sorry in advance, lol.

yep you're right, shows what I know about MK3s eh!  looked it up on elsawin:

Separating point:
-Marked by three impressions on circumference of connecting pipe
-In production the centre and rear silencers installed are one unit. For repair work centre and rear silencers are supplied individually, and a double clamp is supplied to make the connection
-Cut through connecting pipe with body saw e.g. V.A.G 1523 at right angles at the separating point.

you'll need a double clamp to bridge the gap once cut, part number 1K0 253 141 M, around £9+VAT

Thanks very much guys, was thinking the joint was bloody good for a bodged weld!!

And that means that the exhaust on her is the original one from when it was made, crikey, feels a shame to cut it now!!
