confusion (Spacers Etc.)

right heres my story...

i have just brought some bbs off of a bmw e30 there in coventry getting refurbed so i thought i wanna go wide, stand wheels on my golf the
offset is ET36 i think and these wheels are ET24. I wanna go wide so want to get some spacers, went into halfords to have a chat with a guy
about it. He was like it wont work you need a spicket ring or something really hard to explain.

I'm clueless i thought you brought the spacer for a mk3 golf bang them on, bang the wheel on. JD! (job done) but not he reckons you need a
mk3 golf to bbs hub or something. Im SOOOOOO confused

Please help!!

come on wayne, joe, khare and the lads i need your help

1) you will not need spacers as et24 is a very low offset.
2) what he means I think is the center bore which will be different on a e30 (72.6) to a Golf (57.1) so you will need spiggot rings to reduce the size.

Hope this helps.

Centre bore on a E30 is the same as on a Golf - 57.1, you don't need any spiggot rings.

If the wheels are definitely from a E30, then they will fit perfectly fine, even with ET24 - that's actually isn't too bad, because my Borbet's are ET20, and you can still lower the car about 30-40mm with no probs.

Although, if you fit spacers, then you won't be able to go too low without rolling/pulling the arches.

P.S. Spiggot rings are simply plastic or aluminium (more expensive) rings, that sit on a hub to align the alloy to the centre bore of the hub. They won't be required if you are fitting any VAG alloys or the ones with the same centre bore as your car, but lots of aftermarket alloys have a bigger centre bore, so they can be fitted to load of different cars with relevant spiggot rings.

Center bore is the hole in the middle were it fits on to the hub you Golf it is 57.1 on the Bmw wheels it is 72.6 so you will rings to reduce the size down.

There's definitely a mistake on that website, since I had E30 BBS RZ alloys myself, and I fitted them with no rings.

Plus here's 2 websites confirming my info:

http://www.alloyguide.com/BMW.php

P.S. If you STILL don't believe me, ask on any BMW forum ;)

wayne 4 stud BMW 3 series use a 57.1 bore just like VW, I've had 2 different sets of BMW 3 series 4 stud wheels on my MK2 std BMW BBS and also aftermarket MIMs, both fitted straight on.

as above the site you linked to is wrong :)
