RNS510 latest version reference numbers, please
« on: 07 June 2010, 16:18 »
Can someone please confirm the reference numbers I should be looking for when buying the latest version of the RNS510 unit? I have seem "Version 6" and MFD3 in the ads, but have no idea what they refer to.

TIA

Sorry for wasting your time. It seemed like a perfectly harmless question to me. As the RNS units are being updated every few weeks, I just want to make sure I get the latest version.

The actual part number is 1T0 035 680C and its an LED backlit screen with the star button in the top righ corner.

The mapping disc version is on V6.1 but is no different to V6 that I can see?

The star button does nothing differently - it just lets you know that it is a new LED backlit version.
It can do the voice control or repeat last command like the older units depending how its coded.
You can get part no. 1T0 035 680C without an LED backlit screen - so make sure it has a star key so you know its the newest revision.  The date should also be 2010... although there are some very late 2009 that have the star, and some early 2010 that dont!!

I've noticed a difference in 6.1 over 6.0 - the bypass beside my golf course doesn't exist in 6.0, but does in 6.1!!
Golf R... 3 door, DSG, Leather, Reflex Silver, Black 19" Talladega Wheels, ACC, Parking Sensors, RNS510 with Dynaudio, Reverse Camera, Luxury Pack, Cruise Control & Fiscon Bluetooth.

Thanks for the tips. How would you rate the LED screen compared to the standard one? Is it really a lot better? I can tell the difference with LED TVs, but it's hardly mindblowing...

Its definately better - but I wouldn't say it was £200 better!
The LED screen starts up instantly - fully bright.
The older ones take a few minutes to get to fully bright.
The LED backlit screen is slightly more responsive, and can be seen better in sunlight.

Apart from that - theres no difference
